VG BILD-KUNST GRANT / ART PROJECT «THE BEAUTY OF BEING DIFFERENT » / A VISUAL INVESTIGATION IN FIVE COSTUME IMAGES

In 2021 Patricia Walczak received the Federal Government for Culture and Media and the Kulturwerk VG Bild-Kunst Foundation grant.
In her art project, she will explore the possibilities of costume design under the aspect of a changed understanding of diversity, identity and the associated perception of self and others.

In five staged portraits, the artist will use customized costumes to break through the usual approaches to such terms as “beautiful”, “unusual”, “normal”, “abnormal”, etc.  In this project Patricia Walczak will work with people who, for various reasons, still face prejudice or disadvantage.
Together with the protagonists she will develop individually made costumes, which do not hide the special characteristics, but on the contrary make them an important, distinctive and eventually attractive feature.
Subsequently, the participants will be photographically staged in the developed costumes and the result will be presented in an exhibition, which is planned for April 7, 2022 in the CLB Gallery in Berlin.
